I joined the Department of Modern History as a PhD student in mid-2007. My thesis concerns the reception of popular American films, within the context of the Cold War in the 1980s. This involves studying how American movie audiences responded to issues relating to the Soviet Union, nuclear weapons, defence, militarism and patriotism. I am being supervised by Dr Michelle Arrow, with Dr Marnie Hughes-Warrington co-supervising, and Adj. Prof. Carroll Pursell as my adjunct supervisor.

Research interests and areas of supervision
United States political history, film and film audiences, American public opinion in the 1980s.

Thesis title
Film reception, politics and public opinion in the Reagan era.
