Research interests and areas of supervision:
My research interests focus on lesbian and gay history; the history of gender and sexuality; oral history; and 19 th and 20 th century British and European history. I would be happy to supervise research in any of these areas.
Current Research Projects:
I am currently working on a project entitled 'Understanding Lesbian Identity and Culture in Sydney 1918-1970', which will map out some of the key features of an emerging lesbian community in Sydney in the mid-20 th century. As part of the project, I am conducting life history interviews with older lesbians in New South Wales , in order to record their experiences and create an oral history collection as a resource for future researchers. I am also interested in patterns of lesbian migration in this period. Focusing on the experience of women who travelled to Sydney and within New South Wales in the period 1918-1970, this research will explore both the fantasy and the experience of migration as affording the potential for individual sexual expression.
