Australian History

Modern history offers a strong and integrated series of units in Australian history. Beginning with the first-year unit HIST109 The Making of Australia, students can proceed in their second year to HIST217 Australia Britain, and the Empire 1770-1901 and HIST245 Women in Australian History, 1788-1988. HIST340 Australian History since 1901, completes this mainstream sequence. In addition, HIST271 and HIST371 examines the history of interactions between Indigenous and non-Indigenous from 1750 the the present. HIST338 Women in History II also has some Australian content. Students wishing to pursue other units in Australian Studies should consult the relevant entry under that heading in the University Calendar.
